Shared Gifting Update 2021

Shared Gifting Update: Monday, August 2, 2021

On the night of August 2, 2021, seven tender-hearted and fierce network weavers pitched 5 projects and requested a total of $31,580. After the first round of gifting, the projects received $17,000. After the second round, the projects received $19,000.There was lots of laughter and warm words exchanged. We met each others’ kids and grandkids. Two of us had photos of President Obama in our rooms. We cheered for one another and affirmed one another throughout. There was gratitude for the space and the process, as well as some health critique of both. The projects are unique and point to growing energy for expanded, connected, resilient networks. – Update provided by Kathryn Evans

SHARED GIFTING- This year Bastrop Network Weavers will have seed funds available through a new participatory grant-making process called shared gifting. Participatory grantmaking turns traditional grantmaking on its head by giving recipients the power to make the decision about how funds are allocated. The underlying philosophy of participatory grantmaking is to empower residents and communities with flexibility and support to make collective decisions about financial resources…as opposed to external funders or ‘big players’ making those decisions. It’s a grantmaking model that puts values of equity, transparency and collective decision-making into action.
